Stay in Character

Stay in Character

Apparently there's a thing called the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and... it's a thing. You need to do a bunch of stuff, provide proof that you've done them, and then you get an award. That's pretty much my understanding of it.
What I do know is that part of this young people scheme is about doing a certain amount of physical activity, or in this case- Capoeira classes. One of my students asked me to sign his sheet, which I was happy to do, if he didn't ask me to sign it until early 2013. Suddenly it hit me, and I really can't remember when it happened to me last: I am an adult. And a Teacher. And when I teach kids, I'm the RESPONSIBLE ADULT. My speech about integrity and the value of hard work was almost an outer-body experience. I was an older, mature version of myself actually educating a young person.
Even now, quite a few hours later, that person still seems to be someone else, as the current version of myself just wants to buy him alcohol and candy to show him that I'm not such a bad guy after all.
